NBA Warriors win 9th straight, beat Pistons Comment By The Associated Press MailTribune.com By The Associated Press Posted Dec. 1, 2014 at 2:00 AM By The Associated Press Posted Dec. 1, 2014 at 2:00 AM » Social News AUBURN HILLS, Mich. — Draymond Green didn’t get to spend Thanksgiving with his family in Saginaw. He did put on a good show for them Sunday. Playing about an hour south of his home town, Green finished the holiday weekend with 20 points as the Golden State Warriors beat the Detroit Pistons 104-93 Sunday for their ninth straight win. “Anytime I can come home and play the way I did today, it’s great,” said Green, who played his college ball at Michigan State. “My teammates gave me wide-open shots all game long. It was up to me to knock them down, but they couldn’t have put me in better position.” Stephen Curry added 16 points and 10 assists for the Warriors, who completed a 5-0 road trip. “I’m glad we got the win and we get to go home,” Curry said. “This really shows the character of this team, and that’s why we keep winning games.” The Pistons (3-14) have lost eight in a row, the longest streak of Stan Van Gundy’s coaching career, and have matched his career worst at 11 games under .500. Kentavious Caldwell-Pope led the Pistons with 23 points. Van Gundy broke up his usual three-post lineup against the smaller Warriors, starting Kyle Singler at small forward and bringing Greg Monroe off the bench. It didn’t work. Monroe, Andre Drummond and Josh Smith went a combined 12 for 38, and the Pistons shot 30.1 percent as a team in the paint. Singler, a former South Medford High standout, finished with nine points after going 3 for 8 from the field and 2 for 4 from 3-point range. “We took 53 shots in the paint, and those are shots you obviously want,” Van Gundy said. “We hit 11 of our 23 3s, and we only took 15 shots between the paint and the arc. That’s a pretty good mix, but you have to put the ball in the basket.” Facing the NBA’s best-shooting team, the Pistons only hit 27.7 percent from the floor in the first half. Detroit led after the first quarter, as Golden State also got off to a slow start, but the Warriors hit four 3-pointers in the second to take a 53-40 lead at the half. LAKERS 129, RAPTORS 122, OT: At Los Angeles, Kobe Bryant had 31 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for his 20th career triple-double, and the Los Angeles Lakers snapped a four-game losing streak. Seven players scored in double figures for the Lakers, including all five starters. Nick Young added 20 points off the bench, Carlos Boozer scored 18 and Jordan Hill had 16 points and 12 rebounds. Kyle Lowry had 29 points, nine assists and six rebounds for Toronto, and Portland native Terrence Ross had 20 points. SPURS 111, CELTICS 89: At Boston, Danny Green scored 18 points and coach Gregg Popovich returned from a two-game absence to lead San Antonio over Boston for its seventh straight victory. Popovich returned for the opener of a four-game trip after missing two games following an undisclosed minor medical procedure. Boris Diaw had 15 points and Tim Duncan added 14 for the Spurs. BULLS 102, NETS 84: At New York, Jimmy Butler had 26 points and Pau Gasol had 25 points and 13 rebounds, leading Chicago past Brooklyn. Rookie Bojan Bogdanovic led the Nets with 13 points and reserve Jarret Jack added 12. Derrick Rose had 14 points and reserve Nikola Mirotic chipped in 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Bulls. GRIZZLIES 97, KINGS 85: At Sacramento, Calif., Zach Randolph had 22 points and 12 rebounds, Marc Gasol added 18 points and six rebounds and Memphis held off a late rally for its fifth straight win. Rudy Gay scored 20 points and reserve Reggie Evans finished with 17 points and 20 rebounds as Sacramento (9-8) lost its third game in a row. HEAT 86, KNICKS 79: At New York, Dwyane Wade returned from a seven-game absence to score 27 points —13 in the fourth quarter — and Miami beat New York. Chris Bosh added 20 for the Heat, including a crucial 3-pointer with 1:07 left as Miami held off a late New York rally. Carmelo Anthony also returned after a two-game absence because of back spasms to score 31 points for the Knicks. Amare Stoudemire had 19 points and 12 rebounds MAGIC 93, SUNS 90: At Phoenix, Tobias Harris scored 21 points and Orlando held off a late rally to beat Phoenix and snap a four-game losing streak. Nikola Vucevic added 18 points for the Magic, who led by 16 early in the fourth quarter before the Suns cut it to three with 1:02 to play. Goran Dragic scored 22 points and Markieff Morris had 18 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Suns.
