Wolfe, who will look to defend his 100-meter Class 6A state championship this weekend in Eugene, boasts the top time in Oregon in his featured event at 10.56 seconds and ranks second overall in the 200 (21.47) and fifth in the 400 (48.84). Wolfe also anchors North Medford’s 4x100 relay team, which ranks third overall at 42.30 with help from Brian Schireman, Javel Stewart and Cody Matthews. Wolfe owns school records in the 100, 200 and short relay and is second in the 400. Northern Arizona secured its fifth straight outdoor conference title and 10th consecutive Big Sky track and field championship this past weekend. The Lumberjacks are ranked No. 23 in the USTFCCCA's NCAA Division I national rankings. Schireman was also part of Wednesday’s signings, with the reigning Southwest Conference boys basketball player of the year set to join Lane Community College. Schireman, who may also compete for LCC’s track team as his mother Juanita once did, was a second-team all-state selection this past season after averaging 17 points, 3.9 assists and 2.1 rebounds for the Black Tornado. North Medford senior second baseman Tate Cowden signed to play baseball for Linn Benton Community College. Cowden batted .343 with 19 runs scored last year and has played a key role this spring for a Black Tornado team that finished second in the SWC and will host a 6A state playoff game against Grant at 4:30 p.m. Monday. A host of wrestlers also made their commitments, highlighted by the decision of two-time state champion Wyatt Westfall to join the Southwest Oregon Community College program. Westfall became North Medford’s first two-time state champion this past spring when he backed up the 170-pound title he won in 2015 with another win at that weight in a dominant run. Westfall also recently completed the triple crown of wrestling when he earned state championships in the freestyle and Greco-Roman postseason tournaments. Senior teammates Cole Hornbrook, Henry Cox and Caleb Dix are also expected to sign soon with Southern Oregon University’s wrestling program, according to Black Tornado head coach Phillip Lopez. Hornbrook placed second in the 6A state championships this past spring at 160 pounds, while Cox twice placed third at state during his tenure and was fifth this past spring at 113 and Dix was second at 145 in this past season’s Southwest Conference district championships.
