Perry Como, Jerry Vale and Dean Martin gave the world such memorable hits as "That's Amore," "Catch a Falling Star," "Dommage, Dommage," "It's Impossible," "Volare," "You Don't Know Me," "Return to Me" and "Mambo Italiano." Hear these songs and many more — along with the stories behind the singers' exhilarating ride to fame — when Camelot Theatre presents "Spotlight on Perry, Jerry and Dean," starring Michael Wing, Erik Connelly and David King-Gabriel. Narration is by Shirley Patton from a script written by Cathy Noah, city desk editor at the Mail Tribune. Musical direction and arrangements are by Dal Carver, who is joined by Lauren James on keys, Lori Calhoun on reed instruments, David Miller on bass, Randy Scherer on trumpet and Steve Sutfin on percussion. Presilia Quinby directs. "Spotlight on Perry, Jerry and Dean" previews Thursday, Aug. 13, opens Friday, Aug. 14, and runs through Sunday, Aug. 23, at the community theater, 101 Talent Ave., Talent. Curtain time is 8 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Preview tickets are $22; all others are $28. All tickets can be purchased at the box office, online at camelottheatre.org or by calling 541-535-5250. This is the fourth musical spotlight penned by Noah for Camelot Theatre. She also wrote "Spotlight on Roy Orbison," "Spotlight on Loretta Lynn" and "Spotlight on Steve and Eydie." Noah has written short plays since 2002 and has had her worked produced in New York City, Seattle, North Hollywood, Calif., Eugene and Ashland. Director Quinby is a resident director at Camelot. She's appeared in stage productions across the country. Since 2003, she's appeared in Camelot's “Les Miserables,” “Sherlock Holmes and the Case of the Christmas Carol,” “1776,” “Spotlight on Mary Martin,” “Steel Magnolias,” “Dancing at Lughnasa,” “Sockdology,” “Inherit the Wind,” “I Remember Mama,” “Always … Patsy Cline,” “Crimes of the Heart” and “Sweeney Todd.” Connelly plays Vale, King-Gabriel is Martin and Wing is Como in this Camelot musical spotlight. Connelly just finished his role as Jesus in "Jesus Christ Superstar" at Camelot. He also performed as Roy Orbison in Camelot's "Spotlight on Roy Orbison." King-Gabriel played Judas in the production of "Jesus Christ Superstar." Other recent Camelot credits include Tevye in "Fiddler on the Roof," Jean Valjean in "Les Miserables" and Max Bialystock in "The Producers." Wing is a member of the Southern Oregon Repertory Singers. He also appeared in "Superstar," along with "Jekyll & Hyde," "Sweeney Todd" and "1776" at Camelot. His credits as musical director for the company include "Superstar," "The Producers," "Sunset Boulevard," "Jekyll & Hyde" and more. Narrator Patton was a member of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's acting company for 30 seasons. She's also worked with Actors' Theatre, Oregon Stage Works and Southern Oregon University's Theatre Arts program. Patton played Aunt Abby in Camelot's "Arsenic and Old Lace," and she was featured in the theater's productions of "Driving Miss Daisy," "Zorba," "Spitfire Grill," "Grapes of Wrath" and others. As a founding member of Extended Circle, which has performed for 23 years in nursing facilities and retirement centers, Patton and her colleagues generally spend Tuesday mornings presenting variety shows somewhere in the Rogue Valley. She is also the voice of “As It Was” on Jefferson Public Radio.
