Dean Charles Royce Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 6, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted Feb. 6, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News Dean Charles Royce passed away very suddenly January 16, 2016. He was born June 25, 1932 to Cecil and Verna Royce in San Diego, Calif. The cause of death was a collapsed blood vessel in his brain. He was 83 years old and had enjoyed a healthy, active life for virtually all those years. Dean delighted in life, was full of gratitude for all that his life had given him, and wanted, more than anything, to make a difference in the lives of others. Dean enjoyed many different pursuits in his lifetime. When he left the U.S. Air Force in the 1950s, he joined Lockheed in San Diego as an engineer, but after a short time, he ventured into real estate and first sold development parcels, then transitioned into residential sales. But he found his true niche in commercial real estate. He was in real estate for over 30 years and introduced his wife, Sandy, to the business. Dean always loved to do things for people, so, after his career in real estate, he decided to go to seminary to become a minister. He soon discovered that he liked the counseling side of the ministry best and he gave his services gratis, to counsel those in need. For several years, he and some friends also repaired bicycles and drove them each summer to the children on an Indian reservation in South Dakota, along with food and supplies for the families. It was his way of “paying back” for all the good things in his life, and a respectful nod to a small part of his heritage. Dean later obtained a master’s degree in psychology to augment his ministerial education and he wrote his thesis on forgiveness. The thesis became the basis for a book. For all his pursuits, Dean’s greatest loves were his family and friends, followed by his much-loved horses and his dog, Sadie, his constant companion. All of us are truly blessed by his presence with us on this earthly plane. Dean is survived by his beloved wife, Sandy; his middle son, Sean; his daughter, Elizabeth; and eight grandchildren, Riley, Liam, Phoenix, Kingston, Alexandria, Kristen, Brianna, and Eirika. He was preceded in death by his youngest son, Jordon, and his oldest son, Shawn. There will be a celebration of Dean’s life at 3:30 p.m., Friday, February 12, 2016 at The First Methodist Church, Ashland, Ore.
