Edwards, Coolidge fare well at meet GRESHAM - Paris Edwards ran away from the field en route to a 3,000-meter victory at the Oregon-Washington Meet of Champions at Mount Hood Community College Saturday. Edwards, the Ashland High senior who won the 3,000 at the Class 4A state meet eight days before with a time of 10:10.55, posted a winning mark of 9:58.87. Edwards' wire-to-wire victory was more than 25 seconds ahead of runner-up Jamie Geissler of Washington (10:23.27). St. Mary's senior Trevor Coolidge posted a personal best and school record with a second place in the boys 3,000. Coolidge broke his own school record with a time of 8:39.63. Coolidge's previous record was 8:41.90 set at the Centennial Invitation earlier this spring. Michael Kiter of Washington won the boys 3,000 at 8:22.75. "I was pleasantly surprised to finish that far up," said Coolidge, who won the 1,500 and 3,000 at the Class 2A state meet. "I ran with the pack for the first mile. I could feel the pace ease off and from there on it was chasing after first place."
