With the win the Grizzlies (15-10) earned a trip to Pendleton for a Saturday matchup against the Buckaroos. The winner of that game advances to the state tournament. Franklin struggled to score against Ashland’s aggressive zone defense. Quaker post Laura Oniah, who had 24 points in her previous game, managed just four against the Grizz. "We had Bailey Hasty in front of her and Abeni Hill behind her," Ashland coach Ken Lathen said. "She had trouble getting the ball." The 5-foot-10 McDermott turned in a stellar performance, scoring five baskets in the paint to supplement the guard play of Roupp and Carlson. McDermott logged extra minutes after starting post Daniel Thompson went down with a knee injury in the second quarter. Thompson was taken to a Portland hospital, but the nature of her injury wasn’t known as of press time Wednesday night. Advertisement "We hit some 3-pointers early and then Josie just took over inside," Lathen said. "She made a huge difference for us." Roupp had a solid all-around game with eight rebounds, seven steals and five assists to go with her 16 points. Carlson had six rebounds, four assists and two steals to complement her 16 points. Leading by eight points with 4½ minutes remaining, Ashland went to a spread offense and nearly doubled its lead. Roupp scored seven points and Carlson had five down the stretch. "That’s the best the girls have ever run the spread," Lathen said. "We had them chasing us and we got to the basket for some easy ones."
