Eagle girls fall to Forest Grove EAGLE POINT -- Forest Grove broke out of a shooting slump in a big way Monday night, knocking down six 3-pointers en route to a 56-38 non-conference win over Eagle Point (1-6). Known for living or dying with an aggressive press and perimeter shooting under third-year coach Greg Evers, the Vikings got all they needed from the latter as Stephanie Klaumann drained three shots beyond the 3-point arc. "They hit the most 3s anybody has hit against us all year," Eagle Point coach Tom McCracken said. Forest Grove picked the perfect time to drop in two of its bombs: in the last minute before halftime to take a 29-21 advantage. The Vikings maintained their cushion throughout the third quarter, then extended their lead with cool free throw shooting in the fourth quarter. Forest Grove had been struggling from the field heading into Monday's game, as was the case for Eagle Point. "We just didn't shoot the ball well once again," said McCracken. Juniors Dusty Damon and Stephanie Lucas each paced Eagle Point with 12 points, while senior Meagan Smith added eight. Forest Grove sophomore center Kris Knowlton came off the bench to lead all scorers with 14 points. "She did a really nice job inside," said McCracken. "She came off the bench and really sparked them." Eagle Point was able to best Forest Grove in one area, however, as Lucas had little trouble getting through the Vikings' press. "We did a better job against the press tonight," said McCracken. "Stephanie used her quickness and was able to get the ball past them. The press wasn't effective, we just couldn't convert once she beat the press." Eagle Point's game today with David Douglas has been canceled.
