The Douglas Forest Protective Association reported the Peavine Creek Fire, located five miles north of Glendale, stayed at about 123 acres in size through Wednesday night into today. DFPA spokesman Kyle Reed said higher humidity levels from increased fog helped with containment efforts. "There was really no growth on the fire," Reed said. "It was all within the line. There was nowhere else for it really to go." The fire has been burning on the steep, rugged terrain of some industrial timber lands since about 5 p.m. Tuesday, fire officials said. How the fire started remains under investigation. "Priority has now shifted from strengthening containment lines to mopping up hot spots," DFPA officials wrote on their Facebook page. "Firefighters will start from the outside of the fire and work in, with the goal of extinguishing 100 percent of heat and smoke within the entire fire." Crews on scene include three 20-person hand crews, five water tenders, and a bulldozer. No structures have been threatened or burned, though two pieces of logging equipment were damaged by the flames. National Weather Service officials have said winds from the north and northwest blowing to the south and southeast could deliver some of blaze's exhaust to parts of Jackson County today into late Friday.
