South riders take second The South Medford High equestrian team took second place on Sunday at the 83-team state competition at the Jackson County Expo. Crater finished sixth overall with Grants Pass taking seventh, Hidden Valley 18th and Eagle Point grabbing 21st. In the reining competition, South's Desiree Duval took first, while Michelle Anderson of St. Mary's finished second. The Panthers' Jennifer Gibson grabbed second in the in-hand-train event, while teammate Tasha Chenault finished third in reinsmanship. Eagle Point's Starla Arnold grabbed the top spot in stock seat equitation, and Crater's Jarret Estremado and Jason Blackmon took third in steer daubing and roping, respectively. The Comets also picked up a first place with Blackmon in individual flag race. The South Medford team of Brittany Aguirre, Chenault, Duval and Brandy Peterson won the Canadian flags competition, while Chenault, Duval and Petersen teamed up again to take first in team penning.
