The Medford Parks and Recreation Department has announced its summer concert and family movie night schedule. The free concerts in Bear Creek Park start Wednesday, June 15, with pop artist Edwin McCain on his first visit to the Rogue Valley. Noted blues musician David Ryan Harris will open for McCain. Sponsored by State Farm, the concert series features performances by regional and national acts on eight weekday evenings in June, July and August. The concert series also features the 234th Army Band on Friday, July 1; Apple Siders on Wednesday, July 6; The Young Dubliners, a group of Celtic rockers who have performed on The David Letterman Show and on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, on July 13; country vocalists Jason Johnston and Michael Boren on July 27; Musician's Friend Jam Session on Aug. 3; acoustic pop artists Kris Orlowski and Dawn Mitschele on Aug. 10; and folk rocker Jakob Martin on Aug. 17. All concerts begin at 7 p.m. at Bear Creek Park and are sponsored by various local businesses and State Farm agents Russell P. Brown, Shane Cunningham, Larry Nicholson, Shannon Walker, Russ Wimmer and Rory Wold. On-site vending will be provided by the Medford Kiwanis Club and Cold Stone Creamery. The Rogue Federal Credit Union Movies in the Park series will take place at dusk on Saturdays at select Medford city parks starting June 25 at Holmes Park with the showing of "How to Train Your Dragon." Bear Creek Amphitheatre will host family-friendly flicks on July 2 ("Apollo 13"), July 9 ("Megamind"), July 23 ("The Karate Kid") and Aug. 13 ("Toy Story 3"). For the first time in the program's eight-year history, a movie will be shown at a neighborhood park in each of Medford's four wards: July 16 at Lone Pine Park ("Despicable Me"); July 30 at Lewis Park ("Shrek: Forever After"); Aug. 25 at Jackson Park ("The Rookie"); in addition to the June 25 series kickoff at Holmes Park. All movies are preceded by themed pre-show activities, games and crafts for kids starting at 7 p.m. The full line-up can be seen at www.playmedford.com or call 541-774-2400 for details.
