Mail Tribune 100, Dec. 11, 1922 By Alissa Corman Dec 11, 2022 12:00 AM A A News from 100 years ago The following news items were drawn from the archives of the Mail Tribune 100 years ago Dec. 11, 1922 FREE INSPECTION OF ASHLAND COWS NOW IN PROGRESS Ashland, Dec. 11. — Preliminary to the enactment by the city council, December 19, of an ordnance compelling all who sell milk or its products, to conform with testing and sanitary inspections of their fairy cattle, opportunity is being offered today to have these requirements complied with free of charge, inasmuch as Dr. H. C. Bishop, federal inspector, is at present working in conjunction with the county agent. Necessarily the testing drive had to be a speedy one, and in order to expedite operations no less than three convenient centers were named where owners could easily have their dairy cows on hand ready for the inspectors. Beginning early this morning, the initial tests were made at the Baughman premises near Hawthorne school, this being termed the south precinct, at 10 a.m., inspection shifted to a central location at the Smith barn, near entrance to the parks, and in the afternoon the tests were completed at the Morgan barn, intersection of Wimer and Almond streets. Neglect to take advantage of this opportunity free of expense, will imply a hardship financially later on in the way of employing special experts to pass upon the inspection work. FRANK BRANCH RILEY TO GIVE HIS FAMOUS ADDRESS HERE DEC. 13 The glories of the great northwest — its forest tracts, waterfalls, mountain peaks and cities — as pictured by Frank Branch Riley, have been told to many thousands of people in the east where he lectured for the Northwest Tourist bureau and in spreading the fame of the northwest Riley himself has become famous, though paradoxically enough, he is more famous and known to more people in the east than in his home state — Oregon. Several Medford citizen have been fortunate in having heard Mr. Riley’s lecture, “The Lure of the Great Northwest,” and through their recommendation the Crater club has made it possible for Medford people generally to hear the gifted speaker who will arrive here Tuesday evening to attend the Crater club meeting. Wednesday noon Mr. Riley will address the chamber of commerce forum at the Medford hotel and Wednesday evening at the Presbyterian church, will give his lecture which has entertained and instructed so many thousands of people in the east. — Alissa Corman; [email protected]
