A 14-year-old female student, an eighth-grader, was cited on several misdemeanor counts Monday for being the author of the letter pledging that seven students would be targeted for a shooting at the school some time this week, police said. Medford police, who originally suspected that the threats were linked to earlier graffiti threats at Howard Elementary School, eventually became focused on the girl, Medford police Lt. Tim George said. The girl reported finding the letter in her locker, George said. The threat was not considered credible, and police released custody of the girl to her parents, George said. The girl was referred to county juvenile authorities on eight counts of menacing and one count each of disorderly conduct and filing a false police report.
