In the race for Position 1, Mannenbach held 75 percent of the vote as of 10:54 p.m., with 1,725 votes to Libby's 545. Mannenbach, a pediatric physical therapist at Medford Children's Therapy, has previously served on the school district's budget committee, the city's Parks and Recreation Commission and the board of Southern Oregon Head Start. Libby, a 2002 South Medford High School graduate, currently serves as the chief operating officer of Jackson County Security. Mannenbach said she doesn't have a specific policy issue she wants to tackle first, but said that she's excited to apply her passion for working with kids to the board's agenda. The Position 2 race was too close to call Tuesday, with Lundberg leading Marks by 29 votes, 1,166 to 1,137. Lundberg, a district parent who owns a photography business, said her top priority if elected is already clear. "Increasing communication throughout the district, across the board," she said. "It's difficult when I get four different answers to the same question." Marks, a retired California police officer who also has children in the district, said his involvement was prompted mostly by the district's changes in firearms policy and the grading of its students. He said he objects to its decision to remove firearms regulations from its books, and he said the district's homework grading sends mixed messages to students. Both Ted Dole, the Position 1 incumbent, and Maryann Olsen, the Position 2 incumbent, opted not to run for re-election. Reach reporter Thomas Moriarty at 541-776-4471 or [email protected] .
