Howard's return spurs Cougars to victory Prep football BUTTE FALLS -- Keith Howard had arthroscopic knee surgery 10 days before Prospect's season-ending Skyline A League eight-man football game against arch-rival Butte Falls. Howard returned to the gridiron on Friday to catch four touchdown passes as Prospect defeated the Loggers 58-34. "It was the first time he was back on the field since his surgery," Prospect coach Mike Gordon said. "He didn't practice at all this week. We thought we'd play it by ear." Prospect junior quarterback Donny Andresen found Howard on all his touchdown aerials and completed 8 of 12 passes for 280 yards. The Cougars (4-4, 4-3 Sky A) tacked on 213 more yards on the ground. "Donny (Andresen) threw the ball really well and the line gave him time," said Gordon. "That makes a difference." Jody Marshall carried the biggest load for the Cougars on the ground with four touchdowns and 165 yards rushing. Travis Smeltz had another big effort for the Loggers (3-5, 3-4 Sky A). The senior quarterback rushed for 162 yards on eight carries and scored four touchdowns. He added 247 yards on 16 completions and made 10 tackles from his secondary position. The rivals traded first quarter touchdowns to end the period tied at 20-all. But Prospect scored two TDs in the final three minutes of the first half and added a third-quarter score to take a 42-20 advantage.
