The Knights used a relentless defensive attack that produced 17 steals while dismantling eighth-ranked Henley, 70-39, on Friday to move into a tie for third place in the Skyline Conference. Senior guard Shaun Ash scored a game-high 21 points — 16 in the second half — and was the point man in North Valley’s multiple defensive sets that kept Henley under wraps. "That was probably one of the best defensive efforts a high school team has put out," gushed first-year North Valley coach Rob Boye. "We were throwing full-court traps, half-court traps at (Henley). "The kids were just flying around the court." Advertisement The Hornets (5-3 Skyline) defeated North Valley 10 days ago, but never could get a grasp offensively. A brief run in the third quarter trimmed a 39-21 halftime deficit to 15, but Henley could climb no closer. The win moved the Knights to 10-8 overall and 5-3 in conference play. With a date against No. 6 Hidden Valley coming up on Tuesday, Boye thinks Friday’s win may be the spark his team needs to stay in the running for a playoff berth. "I really hope so," said Boye of Friday’s win being a motivating factor for the rest of the conference season. "I’m going to use it as one. Right now we’re really focusing on our goal of defending our homecourt no matter what." Darren Clark added 20 points to the North Valley attack to go with five assists. Miles Hohnstein grabbed 10 rebounds and Anthony Spain dished six assists. Skylar Morgan led Henley with 15 points.
