I-5 open, all lanes

REDDING – Caltrans District 2 says Interstate 5 north of Redding is open with limited traffic control after a week of closures because of the Delta fire, which broke out on Sept. 5. The fire started at about 1 p.m. two miles north of Lakehead and quickly spread to both sides of I-5, where truckers fled and left their rigs to burn. Officials said the fire was human caused but exactly how was unknown. All truck restrictions have been lifted, Caltrans said in a release. Ramp closures will remain in effect except for residents that live in areas where evacuation orders have been lifted. Rest areas at O’Brien and Lakehead are now open. As crews repair sections of freeway damaged by the fire, travelers may be subject to single-lane traffic control during daytime hours between Lamoine and Pollard Flat. Motorists are asked to drive with caution and be aware that emergency vehicles may be in the area. The Delta Fire has now burned through 53,837 acres and is at 15 percent containment.
