Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Oct. 29, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted Oct. 29, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Oct. 29, 1915 FAMILY PLAY SHOWN AT PAGE TONIGHT "The Family Divided," a three-part photo drama featuring Edna Mayo and Brent Washburn, is showing at the Page theater. The excellent method and earnestness of purpose that are always features of H.S. Sheldon's stories, make this drama of decided value. The story is a clear exposition of the author's views on the separation of husband and wife, and the evil which thus falls upon the children. The play has been intelligently directed and is acted by an exceptionally strong cast. CALIFORNIAN TELLS OF VALLEY'S NEED TO GET PROSPERITY Benjamin T. Hall, of Visalia, San Joaquin valley, California, has been with friends in the Rogue River valley for several days looking over the dairy business here and sizing up the situation for profitable enlargement of the business in this county. He has read of the possibility of installation, in the near future, of an irrigation system or systems, in addition to the one we have, and of the prospects of the establishment of a beet sugar factory, considering the latter in conjunction with the dairy feed supply. "I am not a stranger in this valley," said Mr. Hall to a Mail Tribune representative last evening, "and for that reason I have gone about my business somewhat quietly, in order to avoid disturbance of my plans. I want to congratulate this community, however, on being more happily free from the unshakable curbstone real estate dealer than are many California towns in my circle of travel. "You have a beautiful valley, with a supply of most excellent water for domestic use and types of soil that ought to be, not only wonderfully productive, under proper treatment, but more than ordinarily durable. However, it will be impossible for your farmers to do justice to the soil or make the soil do justice to them without irrigation. They will be neither able to get out of it what it should produce in the way of yield nor obtain the true quality in the product without water during the season of drought here. That is clearly shown in the instances where irrigation has been applied where possible, on some of the farms. I suppose every owner of land has been convinced of that fact during the past two or three seasons."
