KLAMATH FALLS — The most common midlife crisis portrayal is about buying a new sports car or taking up with a much younger woman (or man) or excessive amounts of middle-aged partying. But for the two lead characters in “Phoenix, Oregon,” it’s all about buying an entire bowling alley — in Phoenix, although the visuals will apparently be from the other side of the Cascades. Several filmmaking crews were in downtown Klamath Falls and other areas across the city last week filming “Phoenix, Oregon.” It’s a film about two longtime friends battling their own midlife crises by opening a bowling alley and pizzeria in a small town, according to producer Luis Rodriguez. The movie is a six-figure independent feature film from Directors Gary and Anne Lundgren, according to a news release from the Klamath Independent Film Festival. Festival organizers also had a hand in connecting investors with the film crews, which helped make the production possible. The Lundgren duo last worked on “Black Road,” which screened at the 2016 KIFF. Last week, the entourage stopped at the Daily Bagel along Main Street, where crews shots scenes from noon to 7 p.m. The KIFF paired the movie’s official filming announcement with updates that the festival is entering its sixth year in production and currently taking submissions from amateur filmmakers. This year’s submission deadline is June 1 and includes a new K-12 student film category with $100 prizes. Though casting calls for “Phoenix, Oregon” first went out on social media in April, KIFF organizers say that the filmmakers are still seeking extras. The last film to be shot in Klamath County was “Brother Nature” in 2014, starring actors and comedians Bill Pullman, Gillian Jacobs, Taran Killam and Bobby Moynihan.
