My opinion is that instead of the teachers worrying about test scores, they should focus on teaching. It is impressive; however, I want to bring to your attention that there is no public bus service to transport all these arriving visitors. Granted, shuttles and taxis are available, but we do have visitors seeking more economical modes of transport. A lot louder when someone takes a gun and shoots a number of people indiscriminately for whatever reason. The problem is that the discussion is about guns. I wonder if, just possibly, we are looking at the wrong part of the problem. Guns are made to last a long time and in some cases fire a lot of bullets. Maybe the direction for better gun control is controlling the ammunition. It's worth talking about, because nothing else is working. Especially since the NRA is not a big fan of gun control of any kind. Frank Kula White City Balance the budget President Obama states that the biggest threat to future generations is climate change. However, the real threat to our future is the ever increasing national debt. Look no further than Greece and Porto Rico. These governments have spent away their future. The United States is headed in the same direction. Our $18 trillion debt endangers our economic future. We must stop this reckless and irresponsible spending. Climate change advocates partake in a leftist agenda which has become a religion of the liberal left. The danger of deficit spending is real. We are spending away our future. Our country needs a balanced budget amendment. Dick Dunbar Medford Build whitewater park Kudos to the Gold Hill Whitewater Center for securing the funds to further the planning for a Whitewater Park in Gold Hill. We have been blessed with an exciting, beautiful course of rapids which will draw kayakers from all across the U.S. This growing sport appeals to a youthful and adventurous following, which will fuel the economic growth that has long eluded Gold Hill. The Whitewater Park is a classic "Build it and they will come" scenario; visiting kayakers will require motels, restaurants and support services. The county and state wisely recognize that a kayak course in Gold Hill has the potential to bring economic benefits to all of Southern Oregon. Robert Lowe Gold Hill Scam averted If not for a very wise lady at Western Union in Ray's Market, Central Point, we would have been scammed recently. We received a call from our grandson, supposedly, saying he went to a concert in Portland, had a few beers, and had hit a lady's car. He was jailed for DUI, and needed funds to pay for her car repairs before they would release him. He didn't sound quite like himself, but said the airbag had messed up his nose and he was having trouble talking and breathing. His lawyer later called and told us where and how to send the money by Western Union. The Western Union lady, thankfully, thought it was a scam, and the more we thought about it we did, too. We went home and called our grandson — and he was at home. If we receive another such call, we now know to ask a question only the person supposedly calling can answer, such as a person or favorite pet's name. We also will not answer the phone if there is an anonymous caller and/or no phone number given. Scammers are working this area and are experts at their craft, so stay alert!
