Charles Aaron Parrish, 25, ran from Josephine County drug agents who handcuffed him following a raid on a marijuana garden in the 9000 block of Takilma Road. Parrish was able to flee when a sheriff’s deputy walked about 10 yards away from him to attend to "another issue," Josephine County sheriff’s Sgt. Ken Selig said in a news release. Selig could not be reached by phone Friday night. Agents went to the location at about 8 a.m. Friday and came upon another man armed with a concealed 9 mm handgun. Russell Alan McCarthy, 23, was arrested after calling police "profane names" and resisting their efforts to control the scene, Selig said. Moments later, agents saw Parrish trying to sneak toward them while armed with an assault rifle loaded with a 30-round magazine containing 27 rounds of ammunition. Police were able to surprise Parrish and disarm him without injury, Selig said. Parrish escaped before agents were able to load him into a patrol vehicle. He is wanted on charges of manufacturing, delivering and possessing marijuana, unlawful use of a weapon and second-degree escape. Parrish, a white male, is described as being 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 165 pounds. He has short blond hair and was last seen wearing a green T-shirt with the words "Born in the USA" printed on it. He was also wearing black and blue pants, along with red and white tennis shoes. Advertisement Agents confiscated eight growing marijuana plants and they believe the site was previously used to produce as many as 100 plants, Selig said. McCarthy was jailed on charges of manufacturing, delivering and possessing marijuana, carrying a concealed firearm, unlawful use of a weapon and unlawful use of a vehicle. Agents went to his Takilma Road home and found a 1985 Nissan pickup previously reported stolen from a Cave Junction resident. McCarthy was being held late Friday in the Josephine County Jail on $50,000 bail.
