Every time we make a Costco run, we use Delta Waters as our route. My wife and I often wonder how and why this road was named "Delta Waters"? Seems like the middle of the valley here is a long way from any deltas. — Wondering, Don in Medford Well, Don, this isn't the first time we've gotten this question. In fact, it's at least the third. According to the Mail Tribune archives, there was a Delta Water and Land Co. that operated in the area in the early 1920s. The property was acquired by Jackson County in the 1930s to build the road, which was intended to connect the old Crater Lake Highway, now named Crater Lake Avenue, with present-day Foothill Road. It was the county's decision, previous reporting shows, to name the roadway "Delta Waters," but local historians have never been able to pinpoint whether there's a connection.
