Crosswalk sting planned Monday in Medford Aug 14, 2009 12:00 AM A A Medford police plan a crosswalk enforcement operation from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the point where East Main Street and Eighth Street merge, just east of Bear Creek and south of Hawthorne Park. The two-hour operation focuses on educating drivers to yield to pedestrians in crosswalks, officers said. Drivers are reminded that a crosswalk is included in every intersection, whether or not it is marked with pavement striping. Drivers must also remain stopped while a pedestrian is in their lane or the adjacent lane. Police have a pedestrian cross the street while officers target drivers who fail to stop or who pass a vehicle stopped for a pedestrian. Drivers who violate the law face a citation that carries a $242 bail.
