Third-ranked Mazama jumped on Illinois Valley early en route to a a 63-56 victory in Skyline Conference boys basketball Thursday. Hesia, who topped all scorers with 21 points, had to sit out most of the second and third quarters because of fouls. " We couldn’t capitalize on it," said Illinois Valley coach Derek Brimhall. "Their other guys really picked up their games in his absence." Larson added 17 points and Brosterhous tossed in 13 and helped the Vikings to an advantage in rebounding. "They were aggressive and attacked the boards real well," said Brimhall. "Brosterhous was all over the place." For Illinois Valley (9-11, 3-7 Skyline), seniors Chris Loock and Tyler Mikels combined for 33 points.
