N. Medford senior wins Miss Rogue Valley honor A North Medford High School senior will serve as Miss Rogue Valley. Lauren Edwards, 18, was chosen Saturday night from a field of nine other young women representing Jackson County in the Miss Rogue Valley Scholarship Pageant at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater in Medford. Edwards will go on to compete at the Miss Oregon Pageant in Seaside in July. Edwards is the daughter of Bruce and Brenda Edwards of Medford. In addition to receiving the Miss Rogue Valley crown, Edwards won the talent competition with a classical Baroque vocal presentation of Handel's "Oh! Had I Jubal's Lyre." She also was awarded a $500 scholarship for besting the field in the pageant's interview portion. Edwards plans to attend Portland State University in the fall, majoring in surgical nursing and music. First runner-up is 22-year-old Jennifer Murphy of Rogue River. Oksana Hammond, an 18-year-old North Medford High graduate and Andrea Holcom, an 18-year-old North Medford High senior garnered honors as second and third runners-up, respectively. Megan Gerking, a 17-year-old South Medford High senior, earned the non-finalist talent award with her piano performance of a Chopin work. Other pageant contestants were: Megan Lee and Lauren Miller, 17-year-old seniors at South Medford High; Leann Foster, a 17-year-old Crater High School senior; and Shawna Lewis, a 19-year-old Southern Oregon University sophomore.
