With the victory, Johnson claims a $2,000 college scholarship sponsored by Umpqua Bank. She will also reign over this year’s Pear Blossom Parade, which begins at 11 a.m. on April 9. Eight Jackson County high school seniors competed in the pageant, with Shayna Willing of Ashland High named first runner-up. Second runner-up is Shannon Rensi of Crater High. Willing and Rensi both won $500 scholarships. Pageant contestants were judged on school leadership skills, academic achievement, community involvement, an interview with the judges, a written essay presented before the judges, and impromptu questions answered on stage. All contestants were required to have a GPA of 3.5 or better to enter.
