I hear cheering from fellow autumn-lovers floating on the breeze. It’s when I begin using fall-themed return address labels and stroke my jackets. Sept. 1 looks and feels at least a little like fall. Dec. 19 bears no resemblance. The optimum season for outdoor activity in the valley arrives with the Sept. 1 sunrise, after which I’ll fight the good fight of staying in my seat long enough to get a few hours of writing in. However, I’m leaving. By rail again, and to Washington for a family wedding, but I know what I would be doing here next weekend had I not responded yes to the knot-tying. (No, I’m not the one!) It’s time again for the fabulous Favell Museum Annual Juried Art Show & Sale in Klamath Falls. If you haven’t visited the museum for its Native American artifacts and western art, it’s well worth the country drive for that alone. Friday, Sept. 9, from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m., marks the opening gala of the art show packed with high quality work from regional artists. It’s a semi-fancy cocktail reception for patrons and everyone (tickets required) and an opportunity to meet with the 32 artists exhibiting this year. A complete roster with detailed information about the show, each artist, including images of the work available, can be found on the Favell website at www.favellmuseum.org . Saturday, Sept. 10, is family day at Favell from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Children are encouraged to attend with an adult $10 admission. There are games and fun activities for kids on the lower level, while adults may enjoy the show undistracted. A portion of the proceeds from all sales goes to support the nonprofit museum. The show runs through Oct. 22, but experience proves that pieces sell quickly. If you’re already picturing how great a particular painting or sculpture will look in your home, get your dibs in early. This year, a People’s Choice option will award cash prizes to the artists whose pieces garner the most votes. And, yes, my friend, Lane Hall, is among the acclaimed artists. Saturday, Sept. 24, Favell Museum will join the downtown Klamath Falls’ Arts on the Flyway Festival from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Workshops and activities happen during the day for the entire family, with wine tasting by Eden Vale Winery and live music in the evening for adults. Two days later, on Monday, Sept. 12, Dancin Winery near Jacksonville will host a silent auction to raise money for Committed Alliance to Strays (C.A.T.S.). If it weren’t for C.A.T.S., I wouldn’t have met the two lead characters for my Chicken Soup for the Soul story, “The Boys Take a Vacation.” I’ve donated two signed copies of the book. Hey, when a writer sells something, they milk it. But don’t try to milk a cat. Just ask Robert DeNiro. There’s no charge for attending the Dancin event, but they need a head count, so RSVP by messaging C.A.T.S. on Facebook or calling the shelter at 541-779-2916. I plan to be there, so be forewarned. They’re offering some great items to bid on from local merchants, including from Wine Hopper Tours, 2Hawk Vineyard & Winery, 7 Feathers Resort, Bybees Historic Inn, Larks and many others. And how can you miss spending a gorgeous fall evening at Dancin Vineyards, with arguably the best view, wonderful wood-fired pizzas and delicious award-winning wines. Plus, 10 percent of the sales of all bottles of wine sold during the event will go to C.A.T.S.! So, it’s fine to be home from the coast for now, especially since it's fall.
