Ashland trailed 2-0 until Leo Duetz converted from 10 yards out in the 68th minute after a quick touch pass created his opportunity among a pack of players in the box. The Grizzlies, who were denied on some quality shots in the first half, marched into Springfield territory thereafter but couldn’t find the net for an equalizer as the Millers held on to likely clinch the MWL title. Ashland dropped to 9-3-1 overall and 5-1 in MWL play in its regular-season finale, while Springfield moved to 8-3-2 and 5-0 with an upcoming match Tuesday at Marist. “We had some nice opportunities but it just didn’t happen today,” said Ashland head coach Brad Roupp, whose team clinched an automatic berth in the Class 5A state playoffs. “Both teams played very hard, very intense soccer.” Springfield’s Guilherme Almeida scored with a nice shot from 25 yards out in the final 20 seconds before halftime, and the Millers went up 2-0 in the 43rd minute on a penalty kick by Quinn Ransdell.
