Royals earn split with Phoenix EAGLE POINT - Kevin Gray and Ricky O'Callahan each had three hits to lead the North Jackson Royals to a 12-2 win in five innings in the first game of an American Legion doubleheader split against Phoenix. In the nightcap Phoenix scored five runs off four walks in the top of the fourth inning to win 8-4 in six innings. Brandon Willer had two hits and two RBIs for the Royals in the first game. The Royals, 8-5 in single A American Legion play, will play Phoenix again in a doubleheader Friday at Phoenix. Little League MEDFORD AMERICANS FALTER - At White City, Klamath Falls South Suburban scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to come from behind and defeat the Medford Americans 7-4 in the District 6 12-year-old All-Star tournament Tuesday. Shae Bedortha and Trenton Smith both went 2-for-3 and scored a run for Medford. Medford will play the winner of the Phoenix/Talent vs. Or/Cal game on Thursday in White City. On Monday, the Americans beat Rogue River, 9-3. Winning pitcher Shae Bedortha went the distance, allowing five hits and striking out 10. Trenton Smith had two hits and three RBIs. Kyle Lamson and Michael Harthun each had two hits, including doubles, and combined to drive in three runs. Upper Rogue pitcher Darren Bruhns had seven strikeouts. Softball MEDFORD WINS TITLE - At Klamath Falls, the Medford American Junior All-Star softball team won the District 6 championship on Monday. Medford cruised past OreCal 16-0 in the finale to advance to the state tournament held in Hermiston on Aug. 21-26. Pitchers Ashley Auger and Erica Sanders combined to strike out 10 and allow only two hits in the five-inning contest. Alicia Stormberg and Kayla Tipler belted triples, while Katy Lawson, Madison Gibson, and Michele Trautman each delivered key hits in the rout.
