The highlight for South Medford came at No. 1 doubles, where Ben Works and Justin Stevens produced a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Nick Millan and Mateo Mengis to avenge an early-season defeat. Black Tornado standout Tyler Wilson didn’t have much trouble posting a 6-2, 6-1 victory over South Medford’s Craig Johnson, but Johnson’s spirited play drew praise from North Medford coach Larry Fields. The 6-foot-4 Johnson was a first-team, all-state basketball player and got a late start in tennis. Fields also complimented North Medford’s Shawn Pruitt, who registered a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 victory over Cameron Guthrie at No. 4 singles. Pruitt normally plays No. 2 doubles. Bolstered by Grimes’ efforts, and an 84 by Chris Troutman, the Pirates won the team title with a combined score of 342.
