Cascade coasts past Yoncalla YONCALLA -- Cascade Christian tuned up for the Class 2A state softball playoffs with an impressive effort on Tuesday, with the Challengers gaining an 8-3 win over Yoncalla in non-conference play. Cascade Christian (16-8) will open the playoffs Friday when it plays host to Amity at 2 p.m. The Challengers scored five runs in the first three innings and never looked back in topping Yoncalla. Maria Stutzman went 3-for-3 and drove in a run with a triple in the first inning, while Laurel Kelly slapped a key two-run double for the Challengers. Whitney Brookins and Rebekah Gettman each added two hits for Cascade Christian. "It was just a nice tuneup to get ready for Friday," Cascade Christian coach Wally Nye said of Tuesday's contest. "The kids played real well. I was pleased." Kelly posted nine strikeouts to earn her ninth win.
