Jerry Lee Bassett Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jan. 20, 2015 @ 2:00 am Posted Jan. 20, 2015 @ 2:00 am » Social News Jerry Lee Bassett passed away January 12, 2015 on his seventy-eighth birthday. Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Paula Bassett; children, Debra Bassett, Jeff Bassett, Michelle Bassett, Dennis Clark, and Shelly Inman. He is the proud grandfather of 14 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings, Johnny Bassett, Jill Mason, and Jimmy Elder. Jerry was born in Visalia, Calif. in 1937. He attended high school in Bakersfield where he was a standout in football, basketball, and track. Following high school he served as a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne. After the service he worked at Wayne's Dairy in Bakersfield for nine years. He moved with his family to Oregon in 1973 where he started his own contracting business. Jerry enjoyed rafting, boating, and cheering on his grandchildren at all of their events. He loved meeting new people and volunteered 17 years for the VA Dom in White City. He also spent time volunteering for Britt Festivals and the Craterian Theater. He was a hardworking and giving man who will be missed by many. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at the Jacksonville Cemetery.
