A 26-year-old Eagle Point man died after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 5 near Central Point Thursday morning, Oregon State Police confirmed. The crash happened at about 6:15 a.m. near milepost 33, according to dispatch records. The man, Richard Drew Wilson, was attempting to cross the northbound lanes of the freeway near the exit 33 interchange when a Nissan Xterra driven by Medford resident Jeri Renee Wiggins, 52, hit him, OSP reported. “Visibility in the area was limited by darkness and dense fog,” OSP said in a news release. Wilson was pronounced dead at the scene. Northbound I-5 near the crash site was reduced to a single lane for about three hours, OSP said. The Oregon Department of Transportation, Jackson County Fire District No. 3 and the Jackson County Sheriff’s Department assisted OSP at the scene. The Jackson County District Attorney’s office was consulted and no charges are expected to be filed, OSP said.
