The top-seeded O'Brien and Anne Kim dropped a hard-fought three-set match to Bend juniors Sierra Winch and Jesse Vezo, 6-3, 4-6, 7-6 (4). The Grizzlies also lost in the singles championship match when Ashland senior Ashley Knecht was defeated by top-seeded Madisyn Bryant of Marist, 6-4, 6-4. Bryant, a junior, was the defending state champion. Ashland junior Mischa Kirby lost to Nick Lee of La Salle, 7-5, 6-4, in the boys consolation finals. Ashland scored 12 points and tied for the girls title with Corvallis. CLASS 4A/3A/2A/1A : At Corvallis, Cascade Christian sophomore Nicole Morse took third after bouncing back from a singles semifinal loss and St. Mary's sophomore Pratheev Weerakoon and the doubles team of Ian Newton and Zack Lewis dropped consolation finals matches at the Oregon State Tennis Complex. Morse, the No. 3 seed, was defeated by second-seeded Elsa Harris of Crook County, 7-6 (4), 6-3, in the semifinals. She beat Klamath Union’s Lily Inthisan, 6-2, 7-5, in the third-place match. Weerakoon defeated North Bend's Ignacio Aguilar, 8-5, in the consolation semifinals before falling 6-2, 6-0 to sophomore Coleman Sherry of Catlin Gabel. Newton and Lewis were victorious over Obed Eriza and Jered Pichett of Madras, 8-4, in the consolation semifinals. The St. Mary’s pair were defeated in the finals, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2 by Klamath Union’s Hayden Lam and Leo Dosek. Softball EAGLE POINT 10, CRESCENT VALLEY 0, 5 inn. : At Eagle Point, sophomore Megan Ayres tossed a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts and drove in three runs for Eagle Point against the Mid-Willamette Conference sixth-place team in the Class 5A play-in game. The Eagles (20-6) advance to host Liberty (15-11) in the first round of the state playoffs Wednesday. Kylene Briggs went 3-for-4 to pace the Eagles' 13-hit attack. Kayli Meerten, Paige Leeper and Ayres added two hits each. Crescent Valley;000;00;—;0;2;1 Eagle Point;207;01;—;10;13;0 ROGUE RIVER 10, GLIDE 8 : At Glide, Southern Cascade League champion Rogue River won a nonconference road tune-up game. The Chieftains (16-8) open the Class 3A state playoffs on Wednesday at Harrisburg (16-8), the second-place team from the Mountain Valley Conference.
