Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend August 21, 2005 Nutter outlasts Menne in sprint car feature race WHITE CITY — Bill Nutter edged out Dan Menne in a battle of legendary sprint car drivers at the Southern Oregon Speedway on Saturday night. Nutter, of Central Point, took the lead from Garen Linder on the seventh lap of the 25-lap feature race and held it the rest of the way. Linder spun out on lap 12, allowing Menne to gain second place. Nutter and Menne were forced to weave through slower cars late in the race. Danny Horner wound up third and Randy Rogers fourth. In the modified division, Dennis Silva grabbed the lead on the second lap and never looked back to beat out points leader Mark Wauge. Wauge held off a hard-charging Brian Poppa for second. The two cars exchanged a little paint around turns three and four on the final lap. Poppa ended up in third place with a flat tire. Advertisement The most exciting crash of the night occurred in the modified feature when Bruce Rayburn, Sr. collided with Travis Peery coming around turn four and crashed into the retaining wall. Rayburn was not injured but his car had to be towed to the pits. Meanwhile, Frank Word’s streak of four straight victories came to an end in the pro stock division. Jared Morrill drove an almost flawless race to hold off Word through several yellow-flag restarts for his first main event victory of the season. Word finished second with Seth Carder third and Albert Gill fourth. A.J. Salyer won a crash-marred super-4 main event, while Joe Guider won the mini stock feature.
