LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Letters to the Editor, May 2 Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted May. 2, 2015 at 12:01 AM Posted May. 2, 2015 at 12:01 AM » Social News Look up Golden Rule I would like to thank Robert Soltz for his bullseye statement Sunday: "Cast the First Stone." Yes, there is one rule that applies to all, whether you have a sectarian or secular leaning; whether you look to scriptures for your inner peace or are just spiritual in mind and heart. It's called the Golden Rule. If you don't know what that is, or have forgotten, do the world a favor and look it up — please. Steve Sutfin Talent Proud of my family For years, tongue in cheek, I told my grandkids: Don't go out there and bust your hump; learn to cheat, steal, cut all corners, and get rich. But you know what? They get up every morning, go out that front door to their workplaces and bust their hump to be able to keep a roof over their heads, food on the table and shoes on the kids. And proud to live in the good ol' U.S.A. I love and am proud of them, from my daughter to grandkids, great-grandkids and one 3-year-old great-great. Donna Lehnhardt Medford Who do we call? Regarding the cartoon on page B5 April 26, showing a police officer with a cap reading "Police Image," and the caption, "Found beaten, kicked, neck broken, tased and shot multiple times. Video shows he did it to himself." Yet, who do we call when we need help or are in trouble? Pat Parsons Medford Elect Cindy Tilley Case Please place your vote for Cindy Tilley Case. I have known Cindy for years, and for all those years she has been interested in the community and its future. The communities' future is with our children, and Cindy cares for their education and personal welfare. My daughter earned her master's degree and I truly believe Cindy had an influence in her determination to achieve such a high goal. Cindy was there to shake my daughter's hand when she graduated high school, and kept in contact with her as she progressed through college. Cindy cares! Erin Sprinkle Gold Hill 'Pageant' isn't new From all the the hubbub about "The American Pageant," one would think it was a completely new textbook with a scandalously rewritten history. In fact, it is an old textbook, now in it's 16th edition. Its early chapters are substantially the same book I studied from in a community college history class 43 years ago. Its currently alleged editorial gaffe was to insert some parenthetical words to clarify (make plain) something one of the original founding documents actually (in fact) said. Such an issue would never have arisen 43 years ago. Few people in the volatile early 1970s would have been crazy enough to suggest that the sole purpose of the Second Amendment was to insure a citizen's inalienable right to pack "hardware" whenever, however and of whatever variety they felt like, and (along with that) a right to vaguely threaten armed rebellion if one felt so aggrieved in their political opinions. That this point of view has somehow recently become more popular is the true novelty (the new thing that has changed). One would think that the historical result of the Civil War would disabuse these rebel posers of any thought of a different sort of outcome.
