Woman indicted in boy's death A Grants Pass woman has been indicted for second-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of a 5-year-old boy who was struck by a car while walking along the Rogue River. Cindy Jo Wells, 41, has been in custody at the Jackson County Jail since the crash, which occurred Monday evening near Savage Rapids Dam. Her bail remains set at $200,000. Sheriff's deputies said Justin Perez and his stepfather, Glen Campbell, were walking a dog along a sand bar just above the dam when Wells' car plunged over an embankment and struck them. The car came to rest upside down in a small pool of water. Justin was rushed to a hospital in Grants Pass and then flown to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, where he died the next day. Campbell was not seriously injured. Deputies said Wells and her sons, ages 6 and 10, had been heading southeast on Rogue River Highway when Wells lost of her 1988 Honda Civic and veered over the embankment. Neither she nor the boys were injured. A grand jury also indicted Wells on charges of drunken driving and three counts of reckless endangerment. Each count relates to Campbell and her sons.
