Phoenix High girls soccer honors old Talent High PHOENIX -- The Lady Pirates are on the lookout for alumni of Talent High School as part of a double commemorative honoring the old high school and marking 10 years of varsity girls soccer at Phoenix High. The team will be raising funds this year to purchase commemorative uniforms featuring the old Talent High colors and mascot. The uniforms will be used for special recognition events during the 1999-2000 school year. "We play all of our home games in Talent," said assistant coach John Doty. "This is a nice way to honor Talent High School ... (which has) faded farther and farther from people's memories." It's been nearly 39 years since the last students graduated with the words Talent High School on their diplomas. The school merged with Phoenix High in 1960, becoming an elementary school until it was torn down in 1973. Talent Junior High inherited the old high school's mascot, the Bulldog, and the orange and black colors. When Talent Junior High became Talent Middle School in 1990, the old high school colors were retired. "In the process of doing so, they kind of discarded the history of the high school," said Doty. It's his intention to revive some of that history. Doty is asking for alumni or anyone with ties to Talent High School, particularly any women involved in sports there, to contact him.
