Arrasmith is committed to fair and accurate appraisals. This commitment includes not only residential and commercial real estate but also business personal property. The assessor must assure that the tax laws are enforced properly as related to business equipment valuation. Arrasmith stresses the point that business personal property must be "readily movable." If the property is bolted, cemented or fixed to the property it is not readily movable and would not be reported in the personal property return. If a business has personal property valued at $16,500 or less there is no tax statement. Arrasmith cannot change the law, but as assessor he will educate the public to assure businesses do not over-report through explicit instructions. I hope you agree that Arrasmith is the right choice for Jackson County assessor. Susan Burns Medford Hire Richardson After being born, raising a family and running a small business for 20 years in Southern Oregon, all I want out of an elected official is promised action, a strong skill set and a lifestyle that makes outside pressure unlikely to influence their efforts. Who cares about their political party, race, gender, religion or sexual preference? Just give me someone who is talented, trustworthy, driven and true to their campaign word. Having said that, would you hire a Dodge employee to audit Dodge? Hiring a Democrat to audit a state government completely controlled by Democrats simply defies logic. Dennis Richardson has lived in the center of state government and been disgusted by the workings therein. Retired and deserving of a comfortable rest of his days, he has instead chosen to dedicate his talented life to the cleaning up of government waste and scandal. What an opportunity for Oregonians to embrace! Trent Nistler Central Point Headline biased If anyone tells you the media is unbiased, I have only Thursday's headline (prior to Governor Kasich's visit) as proof. I remember when the Oregon primary was actually relevant to the presidential nominating process and even then it was pretty exciting when a candidate made it to little old Medford. But now the Tribune sees fit to belittle Governor Kasich's recognition that Medford voters might make a difference. I'm appalled, but unfortunately not surprised, at the blatant editorializing on the front page of the Tribune. Trump is a creation of the media and it is obvious that the media intends to do everything it can to crown him the Republican nominee.
