Partnering with a number of community businesses, coordinators for PC Community Partnership Outreach have commandeered an empty school bus from Phoenix-Talent School District and are calling for everything from school supplies and backpacks to art supplies, clothes and musical instruments. The 2015 Back to School Rogue Valley Family Fun Fair — a.k.a. "Fill the Bus" event — will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 26-27, at Harry & David Field, 300 Lowry Lane, Medford. Event coordinator Amber Surgeon said she and other organizers hope the event fills a gap for local families struggling to outfit their children with clothing and supplies for school. The event will include free haircuts, entertainment, music and free photos. A car show is planned, along with a chance to get autographs from race-car drivers and meet local Spartan hockey players. Spearheaded by Pam Powers, owner of Photo Creations and board member for PC Community Partnership Outreach, the event is sponsored by the Medford Rogues, Harry & David Field, Photo Creations, Pepsi and John Rice Plumbing. "We just think it's going to be a great event, and we hope to be able to do it every year," Surgeon said. Kindra Willits, director of Phagan's Beauty School, which will provide the free haircuts, said she was excited to see the community step up. "You think of everything that goes into getting your kids ready to go back to school, and it is expensive," she said. "This is part of that whole thing of giving back to our community and giving our (Phagan's) students a sense of community, too." For more information, see www.pccommunitypartnership.org .
