But the Black Tornado regrouped and came away with an important 57-52 road victory over the Indians. "We got a win that we had to get to keep our conference championship hopes alive," said North Medford coach Tim Karrick, whose team is one game behind SOC-leading Crater with one game remaining. "We were determined to get the win up here." It didn’t look good for North (18-5, 11-2 SOC) early when it fell behind by 10 points and starting post Michelle Westermann was forced to the bench with three first-quarter fouls. But the Black Tornado received important contributions from backups Naomi Mautz, Erin Heath and Jennifer Standifer, who combined for 19 points. North Medford pulled to within 32-30 at halftime, but because of foul problems it was forced to start the second half with only two starters on the floor. The Black Tornado forced Roseburg into 25 turnovers for the game. Then North built a five-point advantage with about four minutes to go, and the Indians chose to foul. North didn’t capitalize on its opportunities — making only 8 of 19 from the line in the fourth. Junior guard Kailey Bostwick paced the Tornado with 15 points, four assists and three steals. Despite spending a lot of minutes on the bench, Westermann pulled down a team-high nine rebounds to go with six points. Black Tornado junior Mellisa Eastwold added eight rebounds and seven points. For Roseburg (15-8, 7-6 SOC), which fell into a tie with Grants Pass for the conference’s fourth and final state-playoff berth, Katie Fuller led all scorers with 25 points.
