Talent man found guilty of luring teenage girls online Maitland Kamaunu Friday Feb 3, 2017 at 4:41 PM Feb 3, 2017 at 4:56 PM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil A Talent man pleaded guilty today to luring multiple teenage girls online and engaging in sex with them. Maitland Kamaunu, 21, pleaded guilty to charges of first-degree online sexual corruption of a minor, third-degree sodomy, two counts of second-degree sexual abuse, two counts of third-degree rape, and two counts of marijuana delivery. The pleas cover four separate cases that happened over a nearly two-year period between December 2013 and September 2015, according to Jackson County District Attorney Zori Cook. Kamaunu approached the girls — all 15 or younger — on Facebook, prosecutors said. The online meetings progressed to sexual relationships. Kamaunu would also sometimes give his victims marijuana.  A Jackson County grand jury indicted Kamaunu on charges March 26, 2015, with additional indictments Oct. 14, Oct. 21 and Nov. 4 of that year. A grandmother of one of the victims spoke at the hearing, telling Judge Tim Barnack that the incident had a severe impact on the girl's life. "Her life completely tanked after this happened to her. She felt incredibly guilty," the woman said. "She started using drugs. She lost her friends, her school tanked, she was failing her classes." Things have improved since then, she added. The girl has received counseling and gotten her grades up. "She still feels guilty. This was a terrible thing that happened to her," she said. Kamaunu also read an apology at the hearing. "My actions were selfish and unrighteous," Kamaunu said. "(In) the time I've spent behind these walls, I've learned I'm not the victim. You are the victims."
