Wilson and her Black Tornado teammates, most of whom took AP exams during the day, dropped a 5-3 decision to a well-rested Roseburg team Thursday afternoon at Varsity Courts. In spite of the loss, North coach Dale Jensen came away from the match with some positives. "Sitting all day taking tests is not a good thing before a tennis match," Jensen said. "But they’re student-athletes and the student comes first. I’m as happy for them being good students as I am for them winning." It was Wilson’s 7-6, 1-6, 4-6 loss at No. 1 singles to SOC top-seed Stacy Wetmore that was the deciding match. Advertisement "It was a huge match," Jensen said. "It was good for both of them and Lauren almost did it. She won a tough first set and was ahead in the third for a while." Roseburg went on to sweep all four singles matches and a key doubles match. North led 3-1 going into singles play after Heather Dumas and Jennifer Pendergast, normally the No. 2 doubles team for the Tornado, beat Roseburg’s No. 1 team, 6-0, 6-2. "It was a good chance for our No. 2 team to get a big challenge and they beat (Roseburg) decidedly," Jensen said. Also winning in straight-sets for North were the doubles teams of Carleen Bullard and MacKenzie Hilmer at No. 3 and Sarah Pendergast and Jennifer Dumas at No. 4. SINGLES — Stacy Wetmore, R, d.
