Blodgett, Maxey named to the Sunset first team Feb 24, 2009 12:00 AM A A With a veteran Cascade Christian team headed to the playoffs and Rogue River's future looking bright with a young core of stars, Sunset League accolades were handed out to both girls basketball teams. Challengers senior guard Lindsey Blodgett and freshman guard Kelly Maxey of the Chieftians were named to the Sunset all-conference first team on Sunday. With quiet confidence, Blodgett let her play do the talking for the Challengers (15-10), who will face Sheridan in the first round of the Class 3A playoffs on Saturday. "She does so many things that dont show up in the scoring column," said Casacde Christian coach Marvin Denman. "Her demeanor is quiet, but the kids really look up to her for her leadership. We're gonna miss her. She's a wonderful person to coach." Maxey, who averaged 14 points, five assists and three steals per game in conference play, had five games of 20 or more points and went to the free-throw line about eight times per contest. The Chieftains other outstanding freshman, Alli Ehrhardt, made the second team. She provided 10.5 points, four rebounds, two assists and a pair of steals a game for the Chieftains. Ehrhardt also shot 78 percent from the charity stripe and was a 35 percent 3-point shooter. "We're very pleased with the regard our kids were held in by the rest of the conference," said Rogue River coach Dave Ehrhardt. "To place two freshmen on the two teams is a great sign of where we want our program to go in the future." Andi Vondra, a junior post, also joined the second team for the Challengers. Cascade Christian sophomore Amanda Kinney and Rogue River senior Sabrina Smith were honorable mentions. Heather Case of Cascade Christian and Rogue River's Jessa Fricke made the all-defensive team.
