Medford Winter Light Festival Medford�s annual downtown tree-lighting and caroling celebration is set for Saturday, Nov. 26, at Vogel Plaza. Activities start a little after 5 p.m. and continue until about 8. Main event is the lighting of the tree, set for about 6:45 p.m. The tree to be used this year is owned by John and Becky Plane, who have a 35-foot blue spruce growing in their Medford yard. The tree will be decorated �like no other tree has ever been done in Vogel Plaza,� promises Scott Henselman, committee spokesman. The tree is scheduled to be cut down at 8 a.m. on Nov. 17 and installed at the Plaza at 9:30 a.m. On the day of festivities, streets will be closed at about 5:30 p.m. Then at 5:45 p.m., the Salvation Army will provide free hot chocolate and coffee, and folks from ACCESS Inc. will be roasting chestnuts. Food donations for ACCESS will be accepted at the chestnut cart. The ceremonies begin at 6 p.m. Megan Muriset will perform �Here Comes Santa Claus,� an appropriate introduction as Santa arrives by fire truck at about 6:15 p.m. and hands out candy. Performances by the North Medford High School Brass Quintet and South Medford Ensemble Choir will follow. Medford Mayor Gary Wheeler will take the stage at about 6:45 p.m. for the tree lighting. Muriset and the Brass Quintet will offer additional performances, followed by a group from St. Mary�s High School and a mayor�s prayer. A little after 7:30 p.m., the St. Mary�s Choir will lead a sing-along with such numbers as �White Christmas,� �Jingle Bells,� �Silent Night� and �Frosty the Snowman.� ©2005 - MailTribune.com
