Ashland woman remains missing No evidence of foul play in year-old mystery By JESSICA SMITH A year after she was last seen in the area, Jackson County Sheriff's Office detectives are looking for an Ashland woman who family members call a "traveler." Cheryl Kay Seyedin, 41, has been missing since Nov. 17, 1998. "She's had quite an eventful life, she's kind of a free spirit," said Shirley Cross, Seyedin's mother. "But she never left an area without calling me first." Cross, who lives in Dayton, Ohio, said she last spoke with her daughter in late November 1998, before Thanksgiving. "I never heard from her since," said Cross, adding that Seyedin has always called home on holidays and family birthdays. "So that's why we're very suspicious that something has happened or that something is wrong." But there is no evidence of foul play in the case, according to sheriff's office Det. Dan Hobbs. "In the past, she's was known to just up and leave," Hobbs said. "She's sort of transient in nature." However, Cross said she doesn't believe her daughter would leave Ashland voluntarily. "I don't feel she would have left without something happening to her or someone forcing her to leave," Cross added. "She wouldn't do it willfully." Seyedin, who sheriff's office detectives say was living in a trailer outside Ashland city limits at the time of her disappearance, was listed as a missing person on July 9, 1999. Hobbs said anyone with information on the case is encouraged to call the sheriff's office at 774-6813. Although Seyedin may have been living with a boyfriend in November 1998, Hobbs said the sheriff's office has confirmed that she was last seen Nov. 17 in the area by her doctor in Medford, during an appointment following foot surgery. Seyedin, a self-employed landscape architect, moved to the Rogue Valley in 1994. She previously lived in Ohio, California and Texas. She is 5-feet, 2-inches tall, weighs 115 pounds and has brown hair and brown eyes. Hobbs said she has used the aliases Cheryl Kay DeLaCroix, Cheryl Kay Cross and Cheryl Kay Foreman. Hobbs and Cross said Seyedin's drinking sometimes found her in trouble with the law. In 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1998, Seyedin was arrested and booked on charges of domestic assault. She also was arrested and charged with driving under the influence of intoxicants in 1998. Hobbs said there are no charges currently pending against Seyedin. "I know that Cheryl has been a problem somewhat," Cross said. "Regardless, I feel she still deserves the same consideration as someone else."
