MARIJUANA Pot grows raided in Siskiyou County More than 13,000 plants seized Comment By Hannah Golden Mail Tribune MailTribune.com By Hannah Golden Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 22, 2016 at 4:43 PM By Hannah Golden Mail Tribune Posted Aug. 22, 2016 at 4:43 PM » Social News Over 13,100 marijuana plants were seized and six arrests were made last week in Siskiyou County, Calif., as authorities crack down on illegal grows during harvest time. On Aug. 16, a raid in Hornbrook yielded 187 illegal plants, concentrated marijuana oil and three firearms, according to a press release by the Siskiyou County Sheriff's Office. The Siskiyou Interagency Marijuana Investigation Team operation resulted in the arrest of property owner Daniel Donovan, 26, who has additional addresses in Santa Rosa, Calif., and Ashland. On Aug. 18, SIMIT conducted another six search warrants on six separate properties. These busts yielded 600 plants, four pounds of processed marijuana and two firearms, the release said. Five suspects were arrested in the operations. One suspect fled on foot but was later captured. Also last week, raids of large-scale illegal pot grows on public lands were carried out by the North State Marijuana Investigation Team, resulting in the seizure of 12,320 plants in the Rock Creek area. No arrests were made. Two suspects fled on foot but were not located, the release said. In the last two weeks, NSMIT has seized over 60,000 plants, the release said. Sheriff's Sgt. Jeremiah LaRue said authorities are not targeting legitimate medical marijuana users or growers who comply with the law. "We are actively and aggressively implementing enforcement action against illegal drug traffickers whose unlawful acts, disregard for their neighbors and the environment are adversely impacting the quality of life in our county," he said in the release. The Siskiyou County ordinance on marijuana allows for up to 12 plants to be grown indoors in separate structures that meet regulations. Multiple agencies were involved in last week's raids and search warrants, including federal, state and county law enforcement. "We will continue to concentrate our efforts in the next few weeks on other areas of the county as well in an attempt to curtail illegal marijuana cultivation operations, which are still pervasive in virtually every portion of the county," Siskiyou County Sheriff Jon Lopey in the press release.
