Woman faces new assault charges in elder abuse case Karin Boldt Thursday Mar 1, 2018 at 6:16 PM Mar 2, 2018 at 7:01 AM Nick Morgan Mail Tribune @mtcrimebeat A woman already facing attempted murder charges in an elder abuse and fraud case involving two Medford seniors now faces new Measure 11 assault charges alleging she harmed the victims using a combination of medications. Karin Franziska Boldt, 55, made a court appearance Thursday afternoon on a grand jury's two additional charges of second-degree assault using "opiates and/or benzodiazepines" against the same two victims named in Boldt's complex elder abuse case. Medford police say Boldt mistreated the two seniors in an attempt to place them into hospice, and committed aggravated theft and money laundering in defrauding the victims out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. The two additional charges, which carry a mandatory minimum 70-month prison sentence, are on top of the 30 prior felony charges, which include criminal mistreatment, aggravated theft, first-degree theft and money laundering. The new charges issued Wednesday follow five hours of testimony, including testimony from the elderly male and female victims — who police say did not know each other prior to their March 2017 hospitalizations. Also testifying were Medford police Det. Brandon Amaya, an estate lawyer, a doctor, registered nurses and other professionals. Medford police have previously said the attempted murder was believed to have involved over-medication. The revised indictment filed Thursday in Jackson County Circuit Court shows revised dates as to when the attempted murders happened, listing March 12, 2017, for the elderly man and March 23, 2017, for the elderly woman. The attempted murder dates are the same as those in the assault charges. Boldt remains lodged in the Jackson County Jail on $1 million bail. She has been ordered not to sell or otherwise financially encumber two properties in her name at issue in the criminal case: 10 E. South Stage Road, Medford, and 705 N.
