GRANTS PASS SUSTAINABILITY AND ENERGY ACTION PLAN
T-2-2. Install Fast Charging Stations
for Emergency Response Vehicles
The Police Department building is likely to
see a significant increase in electrification of
its rolling stock in the second stage of ZEV
rollout , since this location houses police
pursuit vehicles. Prior to the transition of
these vehicles to a zero -emission alternative,
additional charging infrastructure will need to
be put in place .This will include direct
current fast chargers, which can provide a
fullcharge in 20 to 30 minutes , depending on
the configuration of the specific
vehicle. While Level Two chargers are less
expensive to install, the charging rate of 10-
20 miles of range per hour makes them
suitable only for vehicles that can be charged
overnight or for extended periods during the
day.63
T-2-3. Install Fueling Infrastructure for
Heavy -Duty and Specialized Vehicles
Additional charging station installations may
be needed as battery technology improves to
be able to meet the needs of heavier duty
vehicles, or an alternative fuel, such
asrenewable hydrogen (the sourcing of
which is discussed in BE -6-6), may be a
more feasible source of clean energy for
some or all of these vehicles. As
manufacturers develop heavy equipment that
utilizes either electricity or other alternatives,
sufficient charging and/or alternative
fueling infrastructure will need to be installed.apparatus, meaning additional chargers
using the newest technology will need to be
installed at this stage, it is likely that
something additional, like renewable
hydrogen fueling infrastructure , will be
required.
Renewable hydrogen is a
liquid fuel alternative
thatshows promise, partic -
ularly when EVs may not
be practical, such as
forbuses and long-haul
trucking.
T-2-4. Install Fueling Infrastructure for
Zero Emission Fire Apparatus
The final stage of ZEV adoption –
transitioning fire apparatus – is most likely to
require the use of new, technology beyond
battery electric. While it is possible that
battery technology will develop enough to
cover the transition of at least some fire
