Cascade loses to Warriors DRAIN � Cascade Christian senior quarterback Stan Kelley passed for two touchdowns and ran for another, but the Challengers dropped their first-ever Class 2A state football playoff game Saturday to eighth-ranked North Douglas, 20-18. North Douglas (9-1), which tied for the Big Fir League championship with Glendale, will host Tri River co-champion Kennedy at 1 p.m. Saturday. Kennedy defeated Knappa 30-16 in a first-round game Friday. All the scoring for Cascade Christian and North Douglas came in the first half. After North Douglas opened the scoring on T.J. Bowe�s 40-yard touchdown run in the first quarter, the Challengers came back to take a 12-6 lead in the opening period Kelley passed 5 yards to Jordan Ferrell to tie the game at 6-all, then Kelley went 1 yard to give the Challengers a 12-6 lead. Bowe�s 37-yard scoring run in the second quarter was the final TD for the Warriors. The difference in the game proved to be Jimmy Schulmire�s two extra-point kicks. Kelley passed to Brian Prins for a 25-yard touchdown to complete the Challengers� scoring. Cascade�s run on the extra-point to tie the game came up short. North Douglas gained 340 yards on the ground and another 140 passing for a total of 440 yards in offense. The Warriors had a pair of backs go over the 100-yard mark. Josh Pickell rushed 17 times for 131 yards and Bowe picked up 119 yards on 17 carries. Cascade Christian picked up 227 yards in offense, with 141 coming on the ground. The Challengers completed the season with a 5-5 record. Class 3A PHILOMATH 35, MAZAMA 21 � At Klamath Falls, Philomath�s Charles Bell scored four touchdowns and rushed for 125 yards as the Val-Co League No. 2 team advanced in the state playoffs. Philomath (8-2) accumulated 403 yards in offense and limited Mazama (6-4) to 290. Viking quarterback Brendan Quirke tossed a pair of first-half touchdowns as Mazama led 14-7 at intermission.
