Our backyard backs against the Larson Creek Greenway trail. After the horrific wind/thunderstorms we had a week or so ago, part of the channel of the creek was plugged with downed trees and limbs. I called the city about it and they had a gentleman out the next day to check it out. Two days later the blockage is gone, debris is removed, and the creek drainage is better than ever. It's always nice in this day and age to call a government agency and get such prompt service! Dave Hamann Medford Discussing transportation Last April, when we held a conversation about “Poverty in Jackson County” as the first in a series of “Community Conversations,” the turnout was excellent and the conversation was amazing. Seated in a circle, many of the almost 90 folks there told their stories about how poverty affects them, their families and their communities. One of the major issues discussed by many was how difficult it is for poor people to get around this valley — to get to work, get to medical appointments, get to school and get to meetings where they could participate in the life of the community. So, for our next nonpartisan Community Conversations event, the topic will be “Transportation Present and Future: Access, Transit, Infrastructure.” Everyone is invited. It’s free and a light supper will be served. Expert facilitators including Julie Brown of Rogue Valley Transportation District, Dan Moore of Rogue Valley Council of Governments and others will provide information and keep the conversation on track, but the aim is to let you, the people of Jackson County, talk about your problems getting from Point A to Point B and to share your solutions. Please join the conversation from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, in the Medford Library’s Large Meeting Room. Allen Hallmark, Community Conversations Committee Talent Video offends sensibilities Life News recently reported more ugliness about Planned Parenthood. A detailed undercover video at www.lifenews.com reveals that PP continues to sell body parts of aborted babies (first reported in 2000). Dr. Deborah Nucatola, senior director of medical services for Planned Parenthood, quietly discusses the business of selling intact baby body parts from aborted babies (a federal felony, which she acknowledges knowing). In routine conversation, while eating lunch and sipping wine, Nucatola gives details about which body part brings the highest price (the liver), and how she modifies her technique of dismembering the baby so that ordered body parts remain intact. We see the actual order forms. Nucatola uses (misuses) ultrasound to guide her in killing the baby most efficiently for the particular order being filled. The video includes no graphic images to offend anyone’s sensibilities. Instead, Nucatola herself offends every human sensibility as she calmly discusses this barbaric (and criminal) business model without the slightest hint of concern for baby or mother. Planned Parenthood relies on tax dollars ($528 million) and non-profit status (despite $305.3 million in revenues!!) according to their 2013-2014 annual report. Without OUR tax assistance, Planned Parenthood couldn’t exist!
